Carb Cycling Tip

Carb Cycling – Men vs. Women?

A question commonly asked about carb cycling is if it will effect men and women the same way.  Can they expect the same sort of results?  Will the results happen in the same fashion?  At the same speed?  Do men and women need to apply a carb cycling diet differently?

These kinds of questions are all generally asked because the fitness industry likes to cater to either men or to women, but generally not both.  This ends up resulting in the perception that different diets, exercise programs, and such will affect men differently than it will women.

But more often that not, this simply just isn’t true.

That means that a carb cycling diet plan such as this one will affect men and women the same.

Should Men and Women Do Carb Cycling Differently?

Men just naturally tend to carry more muscle on their frames than women do.  (Ever see a man and a woman that both look to be equally skinny and in similar condition, but the woman has a much higher bodyfat percentage?  This is why.  It’s just natural.)  And muscle burns more calories at rest than fat does.

Put all that together and you have men generally burning more calories than women.  As a result, men generally have to take in more calories than women, compared to their bodyweight.  It just takes more calories to maintain that extra muscle.

So, since women need to take in fewer calories, while they lose weight in the same manner men do on a carb cycling diet, it will take just a bit longer to do it.  Although more often than not, this point is moot anyway, as women generally don’t have as much weight to lose in the first place.

Carb Cycling Protein Recommendations

One other slight difference to note between men and women is that because men do carry more muscle on their frame, not only will they need a few more calories, they will need a little more protein, as well.

As an example, on a moderate carb intake day during a smart carb cycling plan, a man might want to take in 1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.  A woman, on the other hand, might only take in .8 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.

So in the end, carb cycling affects men and women the exact same, the speed of each might be just a tad different, and the application has to be tweaked slightly.
